WINEMAKER NOTES
The 1998 vintage of Fetzer Echo Ridge Sauvignon Blanc heralds the beginning of a new style for this wine, moving from oak aging and riper flavors to a leaner, grassier style that reflects the true character of the grape.

The fruit was harvested at earliest maturity to capture as much of the fresh, green, grassy flavor characteristics inherent in Sauvignon Blanc as possible. To preserve these components, the wine was fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks.

Pale straw in color, this wine has bright aromas of lemon, grapefruit, fresh grass, and anise. In the mouth, the wine is medium-bodied, with clean flavors of grass and citrus notes. Subtle hints of tarragon and fresh mint add complexity. The finish is crisp and moderately long.

GRAPE SOURCING
The 1998 Echo Ridge Sauvignon Blanc is sourced predominantly from vineyards in Mendocino and San Luis Obispo counties. Both coastal appellations produce wines with crisp acidity and clean fruit flavors.

FOOD RECOMMENDATIONS
The 1998 Fetzer Echo Ridge Sauvignon Blanc will enhance the flavors of delicate dishes such as filet of sole with light lemon butter. Grilled seafood and poultry dishes with fresh herbs (tarragon, basil, mint) play off the natural "green" flavors of this Sauvignon Blanc. This wine is also a natural choice for vegetarian dishes featuring grains, vegetables and herbs.

AGING
